Are you ready to take your next step in to the biking world? Taking the Direct access bike test scheme means you’ll have a full motorcycle licence and will have no restriction on the size of machine you can ride. You can get your full motorcycle licence using the direct access scheme if you are a minimum of 24 years old.
To achieve a motorcycle licence you will need to pass the Direct Access Test which consists of two modules. Read on to find out how to achieve your full licence and where you can complete your London bike training.
Do you need a CBT to take your Direct access bike test?
The answer is yes! To gain your motorcycle licence, you should already have passed your CBT and motorcycle theory test and all documents should be valid and up to date. If you don’t have a CBT certificate, check out our website for details on how to book a CBT course.
While you’re practising for direct access, you can use any size of motorbike bigger than a learner motorbike but you must
- be accompanied by a qualified approved trainer riding another motorbike and in radio contact with you
- wear fluorescent or reflective safety clothing while you’re being supervised
- have L plates fitted
- follow the provisional licence restrictions
At North London Motorcycle Training, our instructors are fully qualified and approved by the Driving Standards Agency, so rest assured you will be in safe hands.
What are the requirements for CBT Training?
You must be a provisional motorcycle licence holder. If you do not have a provisional motorcycle licence, click here to apply via the Driver Vehicle & Licensing Agency. At North London Motorcycle training, the cost of the CBT training includes the price of the motorcycle hire, equipment and insurance. All you need to do is be prepared to learn, have a few laughs and enjoy it!
How do I get a full motorbike licence in the UK?
Successful completion of the Direct access bike test Scheme will give you your full motorcycle licence. If you’re based in north London, then our training centre in Edgware High Street is the perfect place to take your direct access test.
Before you move forward, we recommend you give us a call on 020 8952 9622 to discuss the courses available. Our Direct Access courses range from 3 to 5 day modules depending on your ability. We recommend you take a FREE Rider Assessment so that we can accurately advise on which module length would suit you best. If you’re interested, you can fill out the form online.
Each rider has different experiences and expectations. This is why it’s so important for us to conduct the Rider Assessment so that we understand how well the trainee has understood the syllabus, knowledge and skills of the CBT course. We must be confident that the trainee has the ability to safely ride on the road on any machine.
What is the Direct Access Test?
The Direct Access Test consists of two modules:
Module 1 is all about control. You must demonstrate good control of the bike in a variety of conditions. At North London Motorcycle Training we have full exclusive use of a 300 sq meter site where we are able to complete all the mandatory exercises at the required speeds. On week-ends we also have access to the DVSA exam site, so you’re able to practice on the actual tarmac you will take your exam.
Once you have demonstrated full control of the bike, you need to learn how to ride the bike safely in a variety of road conditions. We will practice riding on roads, roundabouts, junctions and dual carriageways to allow you to experience the London roads in all conditions. To ensure you are fully prepared for the motorcycle driving test we will also take you to the motorbike test centre area where you can practice in the same conditions as you would when taking your bike test.
Module 2 of the Direct Access test will last approx 40 minutes.
